Exploring the Interconnectedness of Spirituality, Leadership and Business
This month I am going to talk about spiritual gifts but not in the scriptural sense. What I want to do is to address what happens once you develop and hone your skill or ability. When you develop your skill you become unique in what you offer since no one will use or deliver your ability like you can. And the world is waiting for you to present to it what you have to offer the way only you can offer it. Whether we believe in God or not, when we develop our skills or abilities we also develop a second sense of what will work and what won’t. It is almost as if an extra power or force is created to help us use the gift that we have been given. As we fall in line with the plan that was put in place before the world was created we have support from the supreme power to achieve the plan. We will get downloads or ideas to solve a problem or insight into a situation that may amaze people. To us it may seem obvious but not to others. Why? Because we are flowing in our gifting and the unseen, spiritual world is working with us to fulfill the plan.
I realize that this may seem like a lot of nonsense but we do live in a spiritual world that has a very powerful impact on the material world. The challenge is that we no longer believe in the spiritual aspect of our being or the world that we live in. We have been trained to be beings that say ‘seeing is believing’ when in actuality ‘believing is seeing’. We have so many examples of this. Just think of all the inventions that have taken place in our world. They actually saw it before we had it. They saw it in their mind’s eye. Their vision, which was not material, created all that we see and use today. Scientists look at the invisible to impact the natural. That which is not seen has created all that is seen. Therefore, the concept of ignoring the unseen or the spiritual aspect of us causes us to walk in a level of ignorance that keeps us bound to limitations, which is not God’s will for us.
Thank God for those who are willing to walk out into the spirit realm or the unseen realm and become who they are meant to be by using and growing their giftings and abilities and then allowing the unseen realm to support, increase and augment their skills and abilities. People who are willing to follow their gut or inner voice in the direction that they are being led. Where would we be today without those who were willing to step out in faith to achieve the impossible or that which had never been done before. Especially when they were told that is was not possible. They had a picture of something that was not visible and they worked to bring it into the material world. That is why we have been given giftings and abilities. To take those things that are in the invisible realm and to manifest them in the natural realm.
I am not one for asking the universe for assistance since I only want assistance from the one who created my plan. The universe has other entities in it that may not have our best interests at heart. God’s desire is that we become who He intended us to be and it is our responsibility to find out what that may be. He did not put us here to oppress others or to be oppressed. We are here to expand our understanding and to achieve great things for mankind. The only way we will be able to do that is if we allow God to put His Spirit on the gifts and abilities that we have been given. How do we achieve that? By offering the gifts that God has given us back to Him and giving Him permission to use them as He chooses. If we do that we will be amazed at what we will be able to do. Not in our own strength but in His. What do you have to lose? Nothing. On the contrary, you have much to gain.
We are here for a reason and it is important that we find out what that reason is and how we have been equipped to fulfill that purpose. God doesn’t make junk or mistakes. Whatever ability He has given us is for a specific purpose and it is our responsibility to determine how we are to use our giftings. They can be gifts that are used in our own strength or gifts that have God’s power and ability attached to them, making them spiritual gifts that can have an amazing impact on the world. What would you prefer? To have a ho-hum gift or an extraordinary one at your disposal? The only way we get an extraordinary gift is by yielding it to God. When we do that we are acknowledging that our gifts are not ours, they are His and that they were given to us to be a blessing to others. We then ask Him how He wants us to use the gift and then act with what we believe we have been told or directed to do. That is how ordinary gifts become extraordinary.
So how do we do that? Make a list of all your giftings and then take that list and present it to God. Lay it out before Him and say that these are the giftings that I have identified that you have given me. Then ask if you have left anything out. Listen to what may come up on the inside of you and add that to the list. Then tell Him that you are recognizing that these gifts have come from Him and that you are asking Him to bless them and to help you use them only in the manner that He would have you use them. Then every time you use one of the gifts on the list be very intentional in being sensitive to how you are being instructed to use the gift. It is not to be the same old same old. To have spiritual gifts you need to be aware of the gift giver as you use your gift. You will be amazed at what will transpire as you work through this process and develop spiritual gifts, gifts that can be used by God for good.
