Exploring the Interconnectedness of Spirituality, Leadership and Business
Sacrifice That Leads to His Glory
Hard to believe that we are at the end of August and summer is coming to an end and school will be starting next week. I haven’t taken any vacation yet and while I need to take a break everyone else is thinking of starting up again. But it has been a good summer inspite of the woods ban that we have had imposed here in Nova Scotia. I didn’t get enough swimming in but I did get into the woods and was able to enjoy and celebrate the beautiful world that God has given to us.
This past week, when I was having my quiet time with the Lord, I was reading 2 Chronicles 7: 1 – 3. It describes what happened at the dedication of the temple or house of the Lord that Solomon had built. It talks about fire coming down from heaven, after King Solomon had finished praying, and consuming the burnt offerings and sacrifices. King Solomon showed spiritual leadership by humbling himself before God and praying on bended knee before his people or the people of God. As a result of his spiritual leadership the presence of God was manifested. They saw the fire consume what was on the altar and then the glory of God filled the temple so that the priests could not enter the temple to minister. As I meditated on this I thought of a couple of things that I would like to convey. I will not be able to give everything in this newsletter since it will be too much but I will unpack it over the next couple of newsletters. So….
If we have accepted the work of Jesus Christ on Calvary we have received the fire, who is the Holy Spirit. We are told in Acts that the coming of the Holy Spirit appeared as tongues of fire. In the dedication of the temple the fire consumed the offerings and the sacrifices. It wasn’t a fire lit by the people it was a fire that came from heaven. In other words it was God’s fire. In Malachi 3: 3 we are told that God will purify the sons of Levi, who were separated out to be priests in the house of the Lord. Why? So that they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness. My interpretation of that is so they can be a righteous offering to the Lord. Rev 1: 6 tells us that Jesus has made us, those who have acknowledged their need of Him, kings and priests unto God. Paul tells us in Romans 12: 1 that we are to present ourselves as a living sacrifice to God, which is our reasonable service. Are we willing to present ourselves as a living sacrifice so that the fire of God can consume us? What offerings or sacrifices are we making or bringing to Almighty God so that we can become a purified and righteous offering in His sight. Or do we need to hold onto things that defile us and keep us from being a righteous offering to God? Remember that when God asked the children of Israel to provide an offering or a sacrifice it was to be the best. One with out blemish. When they offered what they wouldn’t use for themselves God was not pleased. Their unwillingness to offer Him the best showed the level of impurity that was still in them.
I have spoken in many of my newsletters that we become what we focus or think on, which aligns with the word of God. We are told in Phil 4: 8 to think on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report and to meditate on things that are virtuous or praiseworthy. Why? Because God knows that we become what we allow to take up space in our minds. Thinking on the things that God instructs us to think on and casting down wrong thoughts and mindsets is how we start the process of allowing the fire of God, the Holy Spirit, to purify us and enable us to become a sacrifice worthy of being consumed by the fire of God.
The purification that we go through is to make us like pure gold. Gold without any dross or impurities in it that will cause those who see it to marvel. This is true self-mastery or leadership. God has called us to be leaders and rulers with Him. Jesus is our example and He exhibited true self-mastery. This is how we learn to align our thoughts with His thoughts so that we can become who He planned for us to be.
Blessings,
Sunday
